Settings

Settings has four pages: Preferences, Devices, Help & Support and About. On a phone they open one after another from a list.

Preferences

Support PO-PatchStudio

From version 1.1, the tip jar is in a card at the top of Preferences. The Support PO-PatchStudio link at the foot of the sidebar (on a phone, at the foot of the Guide) opens it too. On iPhone and iPad you tip through the App Store. On desktop and the Android APK from this site, tips go through a web checkout: Coffee ($5), Lunch ($10), Dinner ($20) or Other Amount. A tip is a thank-you: it doesn’t unlock anything, every feature stays free and the app never pops it up.

Appearance

Select Change Theme to pick from nine themes: Default, Phosphor, Tape Hiss, Neon Rack, Studio Daylight, Mono, Oxide, Vapor and Parchment. The picker previews each one as you go. For themes that have both a light and a dark version, Light or Dark lets you choose System, Light or Dark. On desktop the button in the header switches between light and dark too.

Accessibility

• Colour-Blind Palette adjusts the status colours in every theme for protanopia, deuteranopia or tritanopia, or switches to high contrast. It also colours the messages that say how an import or export went.
• Font size makes all text larger: Default, Large or Larger.

Studio

Restore Demo Kit replaces the Studio’s kit and patterns with the House Kit and its demo patterns. It offers to save your current Studio to the Library first, and you can undo it straight afterwards.

Privacy

From PO-PatchStudio 1.0.4 there are two switches under Analytics in Settings, both off until you turn them on:

• Share Usage Data sends which screens and tools you use and your country (worked out from your IP address). It’s grouped by a random install ID that isn’t linked to your name or email.
• Send Crash Reports sends the error message and crash details when something goes wrong. File paths, email addresses and the names of sound, MIDI and archive files are removed first.

After your first successful send or export, the app may ask once whether you’d like to turn them on. It never sends your name, email, sounds or files. What’s Collected lists what each switch sends, and the privacy policy has the details.

Get Update Emails lets you leave an email address to hear when there’s a new version, plus the occasional piece of news from SquareWave Studio. You can unsubscribe at any time.

In PO-PatchStudio 1.0.3 and earlier there’s one switch, Send anonymous usage analytics, which sends the features you use, the app version, your operating system, your country and error reports, under the same kind of random install ID. There, an error report can include a file path.

Updates

On desktop and Android, Check for updates automatically looks for a new version each time the app starts. It’s on to begin with. Check for updates checks straight away.

When there’s a new version, the app shows what’s new:

• On desktop, Download Update saves the installer to your Downloads folder and checks it, then Open Installer runs it.
• On Android, Download Update opens the new APK in your browser. Tap it to install when it finishes downloading.
• On iPhone and iPad, updates come from the App Store.

Later hides that version for a week.

Devices

Pick the Pocket Operators you own: PO-32 Tonic, PO-35 Speak or Another Pocket Operator. The app shows the tools for the ones you pick. For the PO-35 Speak it works with the drum sound (sound 16) only.

Help & Support

• Documentation opens these docs.
• Replay the Tour runs the first-launch walkthrough of the Studio, Transfer and Library again.
• Keyboard Shortcuts opens every shortcut in one searchable list. Press ? at any time to open it too.
• Join Discord opens the SquareWave Studio community.
• Email Support starts an email to support@squarewave.studio. Copy Address copies the address instead.

About

The About page shows your version and that the app is Free. It also has:

• How Playback Sounds: a reminder that the in-app synth is an approximation of the PO-32.
